What Must I Do To Be Saved?
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” (John 3:6)
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23-24)
What Does It Mean To Be Born Again?
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” (John 1:12)
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Romans 8:14-16)
What Must I “Do” To Be Born Again?
1). Recognize that YOU are a sinner.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)
“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5)
“Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Psalm 53:3)
“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8-9)
2). Recognize that the PRICE for sin is DEATH.
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
“Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:” (Romans 5:12)
“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” (Hebrews 9:22)
3). Recognize that YOU cannot “do” anything to save yourself.
“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” (Titus 3:5)
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9))
4). Recognize that JESUS has done the work for you.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,” (Revelation 1:5)
“Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” (1 Peter 2:24)
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Hebrews 1:3)
5). Believe on Jesus Christ to SAVE you.
“…Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” (Acts 16:30-31)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” (John 3:16-18)
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10)
“In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;” (Ephesians 1:7)
True Biblical repentance involves a willingness in your heart to turn from the sin that is hindering you from accepting Christ as your personal Saviour.
“For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.” (Psalm 38:18)
“…repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 20:21b)
We must realize that God the Holy Spirit reproves or convicts us of our sinful lost condition. Is God speaking to you my friend?
“And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment” (John 16:8)
It is when the Holy Spirit is dealing with you that God is extending His mercy for you to be born again. No one has ever been saved without being convicted by the Holy Spirit. Conviction is God letting you know you are a sinner under the wrath of God with no hope without Jesus Christ.
“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.” (John 12:32)
“No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:44)
The Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to reveal the truth about the consequences of our sin and gives us hope of a Saviour.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17)
You might think that this seems too simple to be true, however that is how God planned for it to be. Salvation is God’s gift to man and therefore HE alone makes the rules. Many people have been deceived by false religions that have taught them that they have to “earn” their way to heaven by man-made rules and doctrines. These cannot save you nor can they pay the price for sin. Sin is a personal offense before God and He requires the shedding of blood. However, in His love and grace He made a way to pay the price of death through His only begotten Son Jesus Christ. Don’t be fooled into thinking that you can earn your way out of hell or that your church, priest, baptism, sacraments, penance, or any other thing can save you. All those things are a trick of the Devil to keep you from trusting in the ONE thing that can save you.
“In whom the god of this world [that is, the devil] hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)
The Gospel is SIMPLY this: You are a sinner bound for an eternal hell, but Jesus paid the price for your sin at Calvary (He died, was buried, and rose again victorious over death and hell on the 3rd day) and if you will put your faith and trust in HIM alone YOU CAN BE SAVED!
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” (2 Cor 11:3)
